A LIMS connects to SAP through defined interfaces — IDoc, BAPI, RFC, or modern REST/web-service endpoints — or through a middleware layer that maps and routes messages between the systems. The right choice depends on volume, how real-time the exchange needs to be, and how many other systems share the same data.

  • Real-time interfaces suit high-volume, time-critical exchanges where a result must reach SAP the moment it's approved.
  • Scheduled batch transfers suit lower-volume or overnight synchronisation where immediacy isn't required.
  • Middleware makes sense when the LIMS also talks to instruments, an MES, or a QMS, and you want one place to manage the mappings.
